Joint Civilian Orientation Conference accepting nominations

The Joint Civilian Orientation Conference (JCOC) program is currently accepting nominations, with strong consideration being given to presidents of colleges and universities. The program is sponsored by the Secretary of Defense for civilian public opinion leaders interested in growing their knowledge of the military and national defense issues. Representatives of HACU member-institutions can contact Captain Brendan Frost, United States Coast Guard Liaison to HACU, for more information by calling 210-576-3233 or email. The nomination process will officially close on December 16, 2011.

The program immerses American business and community leaders in the day-to-day life of U.S. military men and women. The JCOC experience provides participants strong and positive insights about the capabilities of our forces, which they can share with their fellow citizens over many years through speeches, articles and communications with community leaders.

Typical JCOC participants are community leaders who both professionally and personally communicate on an ongoing basis with diverse audiences The participant must be a U.S. citizen, in good physical health (able to withstand 12-16 hour days of strenuous activity), and they must be recognized leaders within their field of expertise and communities with broad areas of responsibility and demonstrated outreach capabilities

Perhaps the most attractive component of JCOC is that it is virtually no cost to the participant.  Once selected, a participant is responsible for the transportation cost to the registration site (typically Washington DC) and any lodging costs exclusive of the actual conference dates.  During the six day conference, participants travel throughout the United States visiting numerous military installations and facilities.
