HACU to host Latino Higher Education Leadership Institute on Oct. 20

“Transformational Leadership in Transformational Times” will be the theme of HACU’s Annual Latino Higher Education Leadership Institute. The preconference event designed for early-, mid- and top-level faculty, staff, administrators and higher education leaders, will take place on Saturday, Oct. 20. A welcome reception will be held on the evening of Friday, October 19 from 6:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m. to allow attendees a pre-institute opportunity to network.

The schedule includes speakers, panels, a career networking workshop, and small group discussions.

Highlights of the institute will include:

  • Morning Keynote, "Latina/o Higher Education Policy at the National Level" by Dr. Mark Hugo Lopez,  Associate Director of the Pew Hispanic Center
  • Multiple Career Development and Leadership Roundtable Workshops, “Preparing Ourselves for Effective Higher Education Leadership”
  • “Latino Student Success: Evidence Informing Policies & Practices” by Dr. Frank Sanchez, Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs, The City University of New York
  • Diversity Officers Panel, “Ensuring Institutional Change during Demographic Shifts”
  • Dr. Rita Cepeda, Chancellor, San Jose-Evergreen Community College District and Dr. William Flores, President, University of Houston – Downtown, will be the keynote speakers during the Presidents Panel

Online registration is underway for the one-day institute until Oct. 5, with in-person registration available on the day of the institute.
