HACU leader poised to win $25,000 grant for a community project

Emily Calderón Galdeano is in the running to become the MillerCoors 2012 Líder of the Year

Emily Calderón Galdeano, director of research and information, Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) has been selected as one of 12 MillerCoors Líderes for her exceptional contributions to the Latino community. The public can visit http://www.millercoorslideres.com/ now through October 31 to vote. If she is chosen as the MillerCoors 2012 Líder of the Year, HACU will receive a $25,000 grant to develop and implement a community leadership program in partnership with MillerCoors.

Calderón Galdeano was chosen as one of the 2012 MillerCoors Líderes because of her involvement in increasing Latina/o student success. In her position at HACU, she pursues this passion through her work in the development of policy, research and leadership development. She has presented at various national conferences and has published research on issues dealing with Hispanic-Serving Institutions and Latina/o resiliency within the higher education pipeline. She believes in the power of mentoring in academics and the workplace, and is a founding member of a Latina mentoring program. Calderón Galdeano strives to serve as an example, mentor, and advocate for her community to help open doors for future generations.
