HACU National Conference kicks off in Washington, D.C.

The Hispanic Association of Colleges & Universities (HACU) kicked off its 26th Annual Conference “Advancing Access and Opportunity in a Changing Environment,” in Washington D.C. More than 1,350 conference participants attended the opening plenary, where the State of HACU Address was presented by HACU President and CEO Dr. Antonio R. Flores.

The 2012 President’s Award of Excellence was presented to Dr. Sandra Serrano, Chancellor of Kern Community College District, for her exemplary leadership in advancing HACU’s organizational development. Dr. Serrano has served as chair of HACU’s Governing Board since 2010, and prior to that served as a member of the board. The award was presented to Serrano by Dr. Flores and Dr. Rita Cepeda, Chancellor of San José/Evergreen Community College District and HACU Governing Board member.

Throughout the conference, HACU will be presenting its Awards of Excellence to individuals and organizations who have exemplified HACU’s mission.
