HACU joins the inSPIRE STEM USA coalition
The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU)
has joined inSPIRE STEM USA, a
coalition of organizations, companies and leaders addressing immigration and workforce
development needs, and working to improve the STEM education pipeline
The coalition supports the Immigration Innovation Act of
2013, which establishes the funding stream for national STEM education
improvements through fees from companies that need additional H-1B visas and
green cards to fill thousands of currently vacant jobs requiring high skill
levels. The plan, dubbed I-Squared, addresses the lack of qualified individuals
to fill these jobs and ensures the U.S. remains competitive by producing more
college graduates with engineering, math, and science degrees.
