HACU announces speakers for the Latino Higher Education Leadership
Institute, Oct. 26
The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) has
announced the first speakers slated for its 12th Annual Latino Higher Education
Leadership Institute, a pre-conference event of the 2013 Annual Conference this
fall. The institute, under the theme “Lifting Our Voices, Enlightening Minds,” will
take place on Oct. 26 in Chicago, Ill.

The morning keynote address will be delivered by Patricia Arredondo, Ed.D.,
president of The Chicago School of Professional Psychology and the first Latina
to serve as president of the Chicago campus. The institute will include
speakers, panels, a career networking workshop, and small group discussions.
The day will conclude with a panel of top Latino presidents.
Three HACU-member institution presidents are confirmed for
the institute's closing Presidents Panel.
Mildred Garcia, Ed.D., president of
California State University - Fullerton, who became the fifth CSU
board-appointed president of Cal State Fullerton in June 2012 and was
previously president of Cal State Dominguez Hills, the first Latina in the
California State University system.
Ana M. Guzmán, Ed.D., was appointed
as the seventh president of Santa Fe Community College in July 2012 after
previously serving as president of Palo Alto College for more than 10 years and
has been in educational administration for more than 30 years.
William Serrata, Ph.D., was named
president of El Paso County Community College District in 2012 after serving as
vice president for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management at South Texas
College in McAllen for more than seven years.
