USDA Selects 2013 Class of E. Kika De La Garza Fellows

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) designated 11 fellows of the 2013 class of the E. Kika De La Garza Fellowship Program who serve in Hispanic-Serving Institutions. Their selection was based on the compatibility of their interests with USDA mission areas, as well as the value their experiences will add to their institutions' educational capacities. The following fellows at HACU-member institutions are among the selectees:

Education Fellows:

Laura E. Avila - Glendale Community College, Glendale, Ariz.

Don Borges - Modesto Junior College, Modesto, Calif.

Jesse Ortiz - Woodland Community College, Woodland, Calif.

Claudia Mosqueda - Richard J. Daley Community College, Chicago, Ill.

Science Fellows:

Luis Cabrales - California State University at Bakersfield, Bakersfield, Calif.

Steven Ritter - Miami Dade College, Miami, Fla.

Alvaro Romero - New Mexico State University, Las Cruces, N.M.

Matias J. Cafaro - University of Puerto Rico – Mayaguez

Jasmine Seda-Miró - Pontifical Catholic University of Puerto Rico, Ponce

Teresa Patricia Feria - The University of Texas-Pan American, Edinburg, Texas
