Deans’ Forum to focus on STEM and business fields

“Fostering Career Opportunities for Business and STEM Students” will be the topic for the 2013 Deans’ Forum on Hispanic Higher Education, Oct. 29, 11:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. at the Hilton Chicago. The post-conference event, sponsored by The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU), will focus on external and internal partnerships that foster career opportunities for Hispanic students majoring in business and Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) degree programs.

The need to recruit and retain underrepresented minorities in STEM and business career paths will be discussed. In 2011, over 52.5 million Hispanics resided in the U.S., with an additional 3.7 million in Puerto Rico, representing approximately 17.0% of the overall U.S. population. Only 14.5% of Hispanics have a bachelor’s degree and 4% an advanced degree, compared to 34.5% and 12.5% for non-Hispanic whites, with even wider gaps in STEM areas.

College and university deans and senior administrators, particularly of business and STEM programs are invited to participate in this special forum. This is the second year HACU offers a forum for college and university deans and senior administrators. For more information on the Dean's Forum and HACU's 27th Annual Conference, click here.
