 HACU National Internship Program brings diversity to federal agencies

A total of 212 federal interns representing 26 U.S. states and territories, and 124 unique academic institutions are taking part in the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) National Internship Program this summer. 

Interns include 141 undergraduate students and 71 graduates. Females outnumbered males 123 to 89, accounting for 58.0% of the cohort. More than half of the participants were Hispanic.

46.2% of interns are currently working outside the DC Metro Area, in field cities across the U.S., Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The sixteen federal agencies that are hosting university students this summer are:
  • Consumer Product Safety Commission
  • Library of Congress
  • National Archives and Records Administration
  • NAVSEA Warfare Center Carderock Division
  • National Credit Union Administration
  • National Science Foundation
  • Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation
  • U.S. Agency for International Development
  • U.S. Department of Agriculture
  • U.S. Department of Health and Human Services
  • U.S. Department of Commerce
  • U.S. Department of Defense
  • U.S. Department of the Interior
  • U.S. Department of Transportation
  • U.S. Department of the Treasury
  • U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs

In addition, HACU placed five co-op interns this summer; four at the Federal Reserve Board and one at USAID.

Since the inception of The HACU National Internship Program in 1992, the program has had more than 10,000 participants that have interned at federal and corporate sites nationwide.
