HACU among those urging for confirmation of Latino Nominees to HUD and SBA

The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU), a member of the National Hispanic Leadership Agenda (NHLA), was among those listed in the NHLA support letters sent yesterday calling for the confirmation of Maria Contreras-Sweet to head the Small Business Administration (SBA) and offering support prior to the hearing for Gustavo Velasquez to be Assistant Secretary at the U.S. Housing and Urban Development (HUD). See related press release and letters.

Today the Senate Small Business & Entrepreneurship Committee passed Maria Contreras-Sweet’s nomination unanimously.  The nomination now heads to the Senate floor for a vote at a time to be determined.

HACU President and CEO Antonio R. Flores issued the following statement:

Maria Contreras-Sweet is an exceptional choice to lead the Small Business Administration and HACU praises the U.S. Senate Small Business and Entrepreneurship Committee for recommending her confirmation as the next SBA Administrator.  Ms. Contreras-Sweet has a proven record of achievement as a successful business executive and entrepreneur. Her recognized expertise as an effective leader and innovative executive make her an ideal nominee that would considerably strengthen the SBA. HACU calls for Ms. Contreras-Sweet’s expeditious confirmation.
