HACU’s 11th International Conference to debut a Student Track, Feb. 25-27

CSUMB, CSUSB, MIT, NJCU and USC to send students to explore study abroad

An International Student Track for the first time will be on the conference agenda when the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) hosts its 11th International Conference, "100,000 Strong in the Americas: Challenges and Opportunities for a More Prosperous and Fair Hemisphere," Feb. 25-27, 2015, in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico.

With study abroad playing a central role in HACU’s international initiatives and the association’s commitment to expand participation in study abroad programs, a Student Track will offer institutions a forum to engage students in exploring study abroad opportunities.

“The International Student Track component aims to provide students the opportunity to learn first-hand how study abroad can provide invaluable experiences and strengthen their career opportunities," said HACU President and CEO Antonio R. Flores. “We expect the International Student Track to encourage students to seek study abroad opportunities and to learn how to make the most of them.”

Among the institutions that have registered students to participate are: California State University, Monterey Bay; California State University, San Bernardino; Massachusetts Institute of Technology; New Jersey City University; and the University of Southern California. All are HACU-member institutions and most have registered two or more students.

Students will attend general conference plenaries and events and separate student track panels will focus on a wide range of international education programs and study abroad opportunities. Panels will include presentations by the Institute of International Education on funding opportunities for study abroad and by IES Abroad on the impact of a global education on future careers. Students will also visit two universities in Guadalajara and have an opportunity to meet with exchange students there.

International Student Track inquiries can be made via email to Jeanette Morales, or by phone at 210-576-3220. Information about rates, online registration exhibitor and hotel reservations at the RIU Plaza Guadalajara is available online.
