Students receive scholarship for Hispanic College Quiz participation

Anyssa Barbosa, history major and junior from Oklahoma Panhandle State University (OPSU), was the recipient of a $3,000 scholarship as the winning finalist of the 2015 Hispanic College Quiz that aired during Hispanic Heritage Month.

The show, produced since 2008 by Central City Productions in partnership with the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) and sponsored by State Farm and McDonalds, has offered television audiences an entertaining and educational game show where participants answer a variety of questions about Hispanic heritage and Latino contributions.

This year, nine students from HACU-member institutions competed in one of three shows, with the winner advancing to a championship game. All students who participated will each receive a one-time scholarship ranging from $250 to $3,000 to be awarded by mid-November.

Like many past participants, Barbosa said she became friends with the other students on the shows.

“I got so close to all of the students that were chosen to compete. I loved it,” said Barbosa about her participation.
