Break the barrier to educational opportunities on Giving Tuesday

As the leaves began to fall and temperatures begin to drop, many are anticipating the festivities of Thanksgiving.

In education, there is plenty to be thankful for. The number of Hispanic students attending college continues to increase, as does the number of Hispanic-Serving Institutions. HACU member institutions are implementing programs and services to better serve the Hispanic community.

As a nonprofit organization, the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) is most thankful for sponsors and donors who turn dreams into opportunity for many students.

However, in spite of their growth in numbers in the classroom, Hispanic students continue to cite high college costs, lack of resources and information and personal obligations as obstacles to degree attainment.

At HACU, we are able to connect Hispanic students to resources they need to not only attend but graduate from college, prepared to meet the needs of the American workforce. Last year, more than 2,000 high school students were given college and university tours to learn about college admissions and culture. More than 400 college and university students were awarded internships and more than 200 received academic and leadership development scholarships.

As we approach the season of giving, we hope you will consider the opportunities you can provide a student by donating to HACU on Dec. 1, Giving Tuesday, a day dedicated around the world to giving back.

Today’s classrooms are educating tomorrow’s America. Your generosity will make that future brighter for everyone.
