HACU announces speakers for 12th International Conference, March 29-31, San José Costa Rica, local institutions to offer campus tours  

The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) has announced the plenary speakers of HACU’s 12th International Conference, Creating New Paths for International Collaboration, March 29-31, 2017, at the Real InterContinental San José Costa Rica Hotel.  

Panelists for Plenary Session I, “The Role of U.S. Federal Agencies in Promoting International Collaboration,” will be David Hodge, director of the Office of Public Diplomacy and Public Affairs, Western Hemisphere Affairs, Department of State; and Evelyn Rodriguez-Perez, director of Education, E3, U.S. Agency for International Development.

Panelists for Plenary Session II, “International Collaboration: A Tool to Improve Health Care Systems,” will be Ricardo León Bórquez, Higher Education and Health Sciences consultant, Asociación Mexicana de Facultades y Escuelas de Medicina; and Aarón Hernández, medical coordinator, EBAIS – UNIBE, Universidad de Iberoamérica.

The lunch speaker will be Margaret Hug, coordinator, 100,000 Strong in the Americas. HACU President and CEO Antonio R. Flores will give the closing remarks. 

An International Student Track will be offered for the second year as part of the conference agenda. Approximately 36 students from the following institutions are expected to be in attendance: California State University, Dominguez Hills; California State University, Fullerton; California State University, Monterey Bay; California State University, Northridge; California State University, San Bernardino; Imperial Valley College; Metropolitan State University of Denver; Mount Saint Mary's University; The University of Northern Colorado and the University of Colorado at Boulder.

Optional pre-conference events scheduled include: the 100,000 Strong in the Americas Innovation Fund Workshop at Universidad de Iberoamérica. Registrants can also participate in local campus visits, including a visit to and reception at Universidad Veritas; a visit to and reception at Universidad Latinoamericana de Ciencia y Tecnología; a visit to Universidad de Iberoamérica; and a visit to the Universidad Latina de Costa Rica. Transportation will be provided from and to the hotel – there is no additional cost for these university visits, but online registration is required for each visit by March 17.
