Hispanic College Quiz TV show entry deadline approaching | Wednesday, June 14, 2017, 5 p.m. CST

Entry period has ended. 

The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) is once again searching for Hispanic college students to star in the “Hispanic College Quiz” TV show. HACU and Central City Productions are partnering on a new season of the show featuring students answering a series of multiple-choice questions on Latino history.

The four half-hour quiz shows will be pre-taped on July 22 in Nashville, Tennessee and broadcast across the country during Hispanic Heritage Month. All students selected for the show will be provided with a study guide to prepare for the program. All questions and answers for the program will come from the study guide. Selected participants and a college/university representative will be provided travel to Nashville (July 21-July 23) for the taping of the show.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Undergraduate student attending a HACU-member institution in the U.S. 
  • Entry must be submitted by a college/university administrator, faculty or staff representative.
  • Each entry must include the name of a college/university representative who will serve as a coach/advisor for the student and travel with the student to the taping of the show.
  • Only one entry per institution will be considered.
  • Online application must be submitted by Wednesday, June 14, 2017, 5 p.m. CST.

Selection and travel:

  • Nine student contestants will be randomly selected by Central City Productions.
  • University representative serving as coach will be notified of student selection soon after the closing date. Upon confirmation of acceptance has been received, the contestants will be announced on HACU's website. 
  • Travel to Nashville will be coordinated and provided by Central City Productions for the nine student participants and the representative serving as their coach. 
  • Flights will be booked to Nashville arriving July 21 for a welcome meeting, taping on July 22 and return travel on July 23.
  • Hotel accommodations, per diem and ground transportation in Nashville will also be provided by Central City Productions.   

Information for representatives from institutions (serving as coach/advisor): All direct communication for the show will be with the representative serving as the coach. 

  • A conference call for representatives serving as coaches to the student will be scheduled (projected date, June 19), to go over the rules of the quiz show, the game play, study guide, and answer any questions. The coach will provide the student with the detailed information. 
  • A Hispanic College Quiz study guide will be provided to the representative serving as the coach to provide to the students (projected date, June 21).

About the show/scholarships:  

  • Three students per show will complete for scholarships in a half-hour show. Scholarships to be awarded in the fall. 
  • Second place winners of Game 1-3 will be awarded a $500 scholarship. Third place winners of Game 1-3 will receive a $250 scholarship.
  • First place winners of Games 1-3 will receive scholarships depending on their placement in Game 4 - the Championship Game. Scholarships are as follows: first place $4,500, second place $2,250, and third 3rd place $1,000. All three students in game 4 will also be provided travel to attend the Student Track of HACU's 31st Annual Conference, Oct. 28-30, 2017, in San Diego. California. The students will be recognized at HACU's Annual Conference, Networking dinner on Oct. 30.
  • The show will be broadcast on English-language television stations during the projected air dates of Sept. 9-Oct 15. Broadcast details will be provided on the HACU website as they become available.
