Hispanic College Quiz TV Show airs Sept. 9 - Oct. 15

Nine college students will star in the Hispanic College Quiz (HCQ) show this fall beginning September 9 as part of Hispanic Heritage Month. The student’s home institutions are members of the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU).

Tune in to watch the students compete for scholarships in the HCQ series airing this fall during Hispanic Heritage month. Find out who will advance to the final game four show when HCQ airs nationwide, Sept. 9 – Oct. 15, 2017. The show is hosted by Alfonso Gutierrez of Telemundo, Chicago.

Game one will include the following contestants from colleges in Texas and California: 

  • Laredo Community College (Texas), Francisco Gallardo, sophomore, majoring in electrical engineering 
  • Pasadena City College (Calif.), Santos G. Martinez, sophomore, majoring in physics 
  • Coastal Bend College (Texas), Luis Martinez, freshman, majoring in bilingual education 

Game two will include contestants from the following institutions in Florida, Arizona, and Oklahoma:

  • South Mountain Community College (Ariz.), Jose Cabrera, freshman, aspires to be a nutritionist   
  • Florida Atlantic University, Lia Castillo, junior, majoring in psychology  
  • Oklahoma Panhandle State University, Ami Torres, senior, majoring in business administration with a concentration in marketing 

Game three will include contestants from the following universities in New York, Colorado, and Georgia:

  • Colorado State University-Pueblo, Yolanda Gamboa, senior, majoring in social work and minoring in Chicano studies  
  • Adelphi University (N.Y.), Mario Romero Ramirez, junior, majoring in political science  
  • Savannah State University (Ga.), Mercedes Guzman, sophomore, majoring in forensics science
