HACU and Big Red announce 2017-18 recipients of Big Red ¡Avance! Scholarships, next year's scholarships announced

The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) and Big Red have announced the five student recipients of the $1,000 Big Red ¡Avance! Scholarships, as part of HACU’s 2017-18 Scholarship Program.

The students from the following HACU-member institutions are the 2017-18 recipients:

  • Arizona State University - Lauren Lopez Negrete
  • Azusa Pacific University - Jessy Cruz
  • Chapman University - Olivia Mello
  • Fresno State University - Daniel Padilla
  • Nova Southeastern University - Alexandra Cabanelas

The Big Red ¡Avance! Scholarship will help first-generation college students, like Lauren Negrete, with financial support during her final year of undergraduate studies at Arizona State University. “I am working to graduate with little to no debt, and for someone who comes from a single-parent home, this program has made that possible."

In celebration of Hispanic Heritage month, Big Red has also announced it will partner with HACU for a second year to offer Big Red ¡Avance! Scholarships. The scholarships, awarded for the 2018-19 academic year, will grant $1,000 each to five students that attend a HACU member institution. Students can learn more about the program at www.bigred.com/scholarship and can sign up to be notified when the applications go live in January 2018. Click here to read the full press release.
