HACU and higher education supporters urge Congress to take action on the DREAM Act

The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) and more than 12 organizations that collectively represent tens of millions of Americans sent a letter to Senate and House leaders urging “fair and humane immigration reform” and passage of the DREAM Act that would provide a path to legal status and subsequent citizenship for Dreamers under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program (DACA). As noted in the letter, action by Congress to proceed with due expediency on this matter is supported by the vast majority of Americans.

In the letter, HACU President & CEO Antonio R. Flores expressed disappointment about reports of derogatory comments made about various countries of immigrant origin during policy discussions, “Some of the current discourse similarly risks depriving future generations of Americans of the cultural vitality offered by 21st century immigrants.”

March 5, 2018, is the deadline set by President Donald Trump on DACA, barring Congressional action.
