HACU Welcomes New Chief Development and Marketing Officer

San Antonio, TX – HACU announces the appointment of Mr. John William Murphy as Chief Development and Marketing Officer (CDMO), beginning January 2, 2006.  Murphy’s selection followed a nationwide search throughout 2005 to fill this newly created senior fund-raising and marketing position.

Mr. Murphy has worked with not-for-profit organizations in the fields of development and marketing since 1980, raising or helping to raise in excess of $250 million.  Before joining HACU, Murphy served as Senior Director of Marketing for Lutheran Social Services of Illinois in Des Plaines, Illinois.  He had also previously served as the vice president of a fund-raising consulting firm, directing bilingual (English/Spanish) campaigns throughout Texas and annual and capital campaigns throughout the Midwest.  He has a Master’s in Marketing Communication from Stuart Graduate School of Business, Illinois Institute of Technology, in Chicago, Illinois.

Antonio Flores, President and CEO of HACU said, “We are very excited about Mr. Murphy’s coming to HACU.  He brings a rich experience in many types of fund-raising, including capital campaigns, that will allow HACU to move to the next level in championing the needs of Hispanics in higher education.  His expertise will be invaluable to this organization and will strengthen our ability to serve our member institutions and the students they serve in turn.”

HACU was established in 1986 with a founding membership of eighteen institutions.  Because of HACU’s exemplary leadership on behalf of the nation’s youngest and fastest-growing population, the Association rapidly grew in numbers and national impact.  Today, HACU represents 450 colleges and universities committed to Hispanic higher education success in the U.S., Puerto Rico, Latin America and Spain.  Although HACU-member institutions in the U. S. represent less than 10% of all higher education institutions nationwide, together they are home to more than two-thirds of all Hispanic college students.  HACU is the only national educational association that represents Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs).

HACU’s national headquarters is located in San Antonio, Texas, where it was founded.  In 1991, HACU opened a government relations office in Washington, DC, and in 2005 opened a regional office in Sacramento, CA.  For more information, please visit http://www.hacu.net/ or call 210-692-3805.
