HACU hosts Emerging Leaders Summit event at York College (CUNY)
The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) hosted an Emerging Leaders Summit focused on preparing students for internships and career opportunities in various fields. The event brought together 58 local students from 12 colleges and universities with professionals and corporate representatives for a one-day event on May 11, 2018, at York College, City University of New York (CUNY).
Opening remarks were given by President of York College, CUNY Marcia Keizs. Felix Matos Rodriguez, President of Queens College, CUNY, and chair of HACU’s Governing Board, provided welcoming remarks. Many of the students represented the following majors: science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), finance, accounting, business, communications and marketing.
Workshop topics focused on career preparation. The agenda included the following sessions: “Highly Effective Strategies for Networking,” “Tell Me Your Story: Connect for Impact,” “Conflict Management for College Students and Cultural Awareness in the Workplace,” and “Dining Etiquette in Professional Settings.” A student panel discussion provided information about career strategies for success.
Information about the HACU National Internship Program was also provided to participants. Representatives from the following corporations were available to meet with students during the Employer Resource Fair: Cintas Inc.; Environmental Defense Fund; Federal Reserve Bank – New York; JP Morgan Chase; Latino Public Radio Consortium; Money Management Institute; National Security Agency; Relay/GSE; U.S. Department of Defense; Venture for America; Voya Investments; and Wells Fargo.

HACU’s Emerging Leaders Summit, hosted by York College, is being offered in partnership with other CUNY campuses: Hostos Community College, La Guardia Community College, Lehman College, Queens College, and Queensborough Community College.
