HACU’s Annual Conference Youth Leadership Fair offers local high school students the opportunity to experience a college campus up close

San Antonio, TX – As part of its 20th Annual Conference, “20 Years of Championing Hispanic Higher Education Success,” in San Antonio, Texas, the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) and Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) will host a Youth Leadership Fair on Thursday, October 26, 2006, from 9:00 a.m. till 3:00 p.m., at the OLLU campus.  This extraordinary event offers local San Antonio high school juniors and seniors the chance to learn about educational and financial aid opportunities at community colleges and universities and to meet with directors of different degree and certification programs at OLLU.

Our Lady of the Lake University will provide transportation for local high school students to and from the college, and will also supply lunch, entertainment and all conference materials.

The keynote speaker for the event is Gabe Salazar, who will offer his motivational remarks at the welcoming assembly at 9:30 a.m. in Thiry Auditorium.  At the age of 19, Gabriel Salazar accepted his first position as Outreach Director for an inner-city youth program in Fort Worth, TX.  Since then, he’s maintained a high level of enthusiasm and commitment to seeing teenagers succeed.  His message challenges the youth of today and encourages them to make positive choices in their lives.

Dr. Howard Benoist, Executive Vice President of OLLU, and Dr. Antonio Flores, President and CEO of HACU, will give welcoming remarks.

In addition to attending several informational sessions on financial aid, career planning, advising and college entrance requirements, students will have the opportunity to explore the campus and hear from current OLLU students about college life.  Representatives from other area colleges and universities will also be on hand to answer questions about their institutions.

The fair will conclude with several exciting prize drawings.
