"SAN ANTONIO, Texas -- Global education information provider Hobsons joined the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) to educate the fastest growing minority population in higher education choices.

A partnership announced at HACU national headquarters in San Antonio, Texas, on Friday will lead to the premier edition of Hobsons Guide to Hispanic Colleges and Universities. The publication will contain information on HACU member schools, scholarships, and other financial aid information.

""Information is power. This comprehensive guide will empower the country's fastest-growing college-age population, thanks to the expertise of Hobsons,"" said HACU President and CEO Antonio Flores.

""Hobsons is a proven leader in providing minority students the best information on leading higher education institutions and available financial resources. We are delighted that Hobsons shares our commitment to help our students achieve their college and career goals,"" Flores said.

According to new reports this year based on the 2000 Census, the U.S. Census Bureau reported that the Hispanic American population increased nearly 60 percent from 1990 to 2000. This is also a population that suffers disproportionately low high school and college completion rates. For example, the 2000 Census also shows that among young adults ages 25 to 34, 8.5 percent of Hispanics have earned a bachelor's degree -- compared with 23.8 percent of non-Hispanic whites.

""The dramatic surge in U.S. Latino population growth, coupled with the challenges we face in efforts to substantially increase the ranks of Hispanic college graduates, lends new urgency to open more college doors,"" Flores said. ""The Hobsons/HACU partnership directly addresses that challenge.""

HACU, which also maintains advocacy offices in Washington, D.C., represents more than 300 colleges and universities that altogether serve more than two-thirds of all Hispanic higher education students. Those campuses include federally designated Hispanic-Serving Institutions, or HSIs, which have a full-time student enrollment that is at least 25 percent Hispanic. HACU's international membership extends its reach to higher education institutions throughout Latin America and in Spain.

With more than 100 publications disseminated to students in 160 countries each year, Hobsons is the single largest worldwide provider of education and recruitment information. These publications include Hobsons Guide to Historically Black Colleges and Universities and Hobsons Guide to Diversity on Campus. With headquarters in the United Kingdom, Hobsons has 17 offices in the United States, Australia, Belgium, Argentina, Canada, Germany, France, Switzerland, Hungary and Poland.
