Secretary Solis speaks of green collar jobs and educational partnerships

HACU recently applauded the confirmation of President Obama’s choice of Hilda Solis as Secretary of the U.S. Department of Labor.  Last week, Solis became the nation’s first Latina Secretary of Labor.

“Her distinguished career in Congress and her earlier years of public service in the California legislature bear witness to her commitment to bettering conditions for the working men and women of America,” said Antonio Flores, President and CEO of HACU.

“Perhaps at no other time in recent history will her role in the Department of Labor be so critical.”

On her fifth day in office, Secretary Solis was greeted with a standing ovation by college and university presidents, leaders, and representatives of Hispanic-Serving Institutions attending the 14th HACU’s Capitol Forum that took place in Washington D.C.

Solis spoke about green collar jobs as being crucial to the 21st century economy and addressed the need for a strong educational pipeline.
