HACU commends nomination of Sonia Sotomayor to the United States Supreme Court

Supreme Court Justice nomination would make history for Hispanics if confirmed

San Antonio, TX - The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU), the only national education organization representing Hispanic-Serving Institutions, applauds President Obama's nomination of Judge Sonia Sotomayor for Supreme Court Justice. If confirmed, Sotomayor will replace retiring Justice David Souter and become the first Hispanic to serve on the nation’s highest court.

"As an association dedicated to championing Hispanic success in higher education, we view this nomination as a historic opportunity for our nation,” said Antonio Flores, HACU President and CEO. “Our Hispanic children and youth, particularly, would be reassured that our country’s top leadership truly believes in their potential to become future leaders in our great nation. There cannot be a motivational American Story than Judge Sotomayor’s for our younger generation and their families across America."

“Sonia Sotomayor is a respected jurist whose career spans three decades in every aspect of the law making her an exceptional choice as Supreme Court Justice," added Flores. "HACU fully supports the President’s nomination to the nation’s highest court and urges the U.S. Senate to confirm her with all due expediency.”
