Leadership and career development to be the focus of Student Track event at HACU’s 23rd Annual Conference,  Oct. 31-Nov. 2, 2009

A Student Track component designed to provide leadership development and career networking opportunities will be offered in conjunction with HACU’s 23rd Annual Conference, October 31-November 2, 2009 at Walt Disney World® Resort, FL. Register here.

Among the topics to be presented will be information about federal and corporate careers, internship and fellowship opportunities, tips for success in graduate school, and more. Students will also have opportunities to network during the exhibitors fair. Student Track Agenda.

Five students, majoring in a fashion apparel design program at HACU-member institutions will also walk a fashion runway as they compete for scholarships ranging from $1,000 to $5,000. The student finalists of the Design Your Future/Diseña Tu Futuro competition presented by HACU and Gap Inc. and LATINA Style magazine were selected from essay and original design entries.

The following finalists will model their designs on Sunday, November 1, 2:00-3:15 p.m.:  

  • Ani Abramian, a fashion design major at Woodbury University, Burbank, California.
  • Griselda Aguirre, a fashion design, marketing major at the University of the Incarnate Word, San Antonio, Texas.
  • Miquette Elliott, a design major with emphasis in fashion and a minor in textiles at the University of California-Davis, Davis, California.
  • Socorro Franco, an apparel design and pattern design major at El Centro College, Dallas, Texas.
  • Neil Marek, a fashion design major with a minor in fashion merchandising at the University of North Texas, Denton, Texas.
