HACU on the Road to make six stops at California campuses

HACU meetings on Latino/a higher education to be hosted by local institutions

HACU on the Road will make six stops in California beginning with San Diego on November 12. The meetings led by HACU President & CEO Antonio Flores are part of an initiative launched by HACU earlier this year to promote national and international dialogue about the state of Latino/a higher education.

“California is ground zero for HACU’s mission,” said Flores. “With its economic challenges and fast-growing Latino population, California stands to set the tenor for the rest of the nation on the Hispanic education issues key to the future of the U.S.”

The HACU meetings will be held with chancellors, presidents of colleges and universities, superintendents of Hispanic-Serving School Districts, corporate leaders and supporters of Latino/a higher education.

“With the six meetings in California and HACU’s Annual Conference scheduled for San Diego next September, HACU hopes to increase the awareness about the need to dramatically increase the graduation rates of Latinos in high school and college in order to assure the social and economic well-being of the state,” added Flores.

Flores believes increasing the understanding of Latino/a higher education at the local level will help to strengthen support for more equitable funding to increase educational access and success across the nation and internationally.
