HACU on the Road tour visits the Lone Star State

This month the HACU on the Road tour is scheduled to make three stops in Texas. The tour first made a stop in Dallas on Feb. 10. The event was hosted by Mountain View College. Following Dallas, the tour travelled to Houston on Feb. 11, where it was hosted by the University of Houston-Downtown.

“As a federally designated Hispanic Serving Institution, we are pleased to host the stop in Houston,” UHD President William Flores said. “Without dramatic efforts to close the educational achievement gap, in 20 years or so Texas could face a $300 billion loss in earnings, tax revenue and gross domestic product. So, it is in everyone's interest to improve graduation rates.”

The tour is designed to promote national and international dialogue about the state of Hispanic higher education among chancellors, presidents of colleges and universities, superintendents of Hispanic-Serving School Districts, elected officials, corporate leaders, and other supporters of Hispanic higher education.

City of Dallas Mayor Tom Leppert and City of Houston Mayor Annise D. Parker each granted proclamations to HACU declaring the HACU on the Road visit date in their city as “Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities Day,” in recognition of HACU’s commitment to championing Hispanic higher education in the United States and internationally.

On Feb. 18, the tour will come home to San Antonio, the location of its national headquarters.
