New pre-conference workshop on the DREAM Act to be presented

“Waking from the Dream: What will it really take to assure educational opportunity?,” a pre-conference workshop, will take place on Sat, Sept 18, from 2:30 - 3:30 p.m., at the Hilton San Diego Bayfront. Panelists will examine underlying issues with the still-pending passage of the DREAM Act and how legislative action can result in educational access for immigrant and undocumented students.

Panelists will include:

  • Dr. Tomás Arciniega, President Emeritus Special Assistant to the Chancellor, California State University System
  • Dr. John C. Burkhardt, Director, The National Forum on Higher Education for the Public Good, Clinical Professor, Center for the Study of Higher and Postsecondary Education, Special Assistant to the Provost for University Engagement, University of Michigan
  • Noe Ortega, Research Assistant, The National Forum on Higher Education for the Public Good, Center for the Study of Higher and Postsecondary Education, University of Michigan
  • Angela Vidal-Rodriguez, Research Assistant, The National Forum on Higher Education for the Public Good, Center for the Study of Higher and Postsecondary Education, University of Michigan

Serena Davila, HACU Executive Director of Legislative Affairs, will also provide an update on the DREAM Act and HACU advocacy activities for its passage.

The workshop, presented by the National Forum on Higher Education for the Public Good in partnership with HACU, is part of HACU’s 24th Annual Conference, being held on Sept. 18-20, 2010, at the Hilton San Diego Bayfront, San Diego, CA.
