Students at HACU-member school districts chosen for West Point summer programs

Four students attending schools in HACU-member Hispanic-Serving School Districts (HSSDs) are the recipients of scholarships to attend summer programs at the United States Military Academy.

William Baez, who attends PEARLS Hawthorne Middle School in the Yonkers Public Schools in New York, and Angela Maroti, who attends Jim Barnes Middle School in the Seguin Independent School District in Texas, will attend the 2011 Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Workshop for middle school students. This unique middle school program offers students the opportunity to participate in hands-on science, technology, engineering and mathematics activities taught by Academy faculty and cadet mentors.  The STEM Workshop will take place June 24-27, 2011.

Carol Orellana, who attends Basic High School in the Clark County School District in Nevada, and Ignacio Ramirez, who attends Polytechnic High School in the Ft. Worth Independent School District in Texas, will attend the 2011 Summer Leaders Seminar (SLS). The program offers a concentrated week of academic, athletic, military and social experiences at West Point, giving outstanding high school juniors the opportunity to experience cadet life at the Academy.

Each scholarship will cover housing, meals and round-trip transportation (airfare or train), including ground transportation to/from the airport or train station.
