HACU President participates in launch event of APIACU, a new advocacy group

Today, prior to its higher education summit, 2011 APIASF College Completion Forum: Strengthening Institutions that Serve Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders, the Asian and Pacific Islander American Scholarship Fund (APIASF) and its research partner, the National Commission on Asian American and Pacific Islander Research in Education (CARE), released at a news conference the most comprehensive data available about college completion among AAPI students.

HACU President and CEO Antonio R. Flores participated in the media briefing where the launch of the Asian Pacific Islander American Association of Colleges and Universities (APIACU), a new advocacy group, was announced.  The new organization will serve as the national association representing Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander-Serving Institutions (AANAPISIs).

Flores, who has been a strong supporter of the APIACU community, spoke at the media briefing.

“I want to thank the leadership of APIACU for inviting me to be part of this event and the summit. I am delighted to be here this morning because we share a lot of common ground with the Asian Pacific Islander community and we intend to work together for the long term in support of our common goals,” Flores said.

According to Flores, among the commonalities of Hispanics and Asian American and Pacific Islanders is that they are both the youngest and most rapidly growing populations in the country and at least 50 Hispanic-Serving Institutions are also AANAPSIs.
