Training in International Affairs and Development
Ongoing 2006-2007

UNCFSP’s International Affairs and Development Training Project (IADTP) is designed to increase the number of students (undergraduate and graduate) and professionals who are trained in and have an overall understanding of global system dynamics, including how the system works, challenges nations encounter when implementing their foreign policies, and programmatic activities designed to rectify socio-economic disparities.

Participants can select from one of three options:

  • Option One: June 1 – August 25, 2006: An orientation, academic instruction, and basic research methodology will be offered during the first ten days.  Participants will then travel to the United Kingdom to explore British Colonial Archives and collect information on their proposed research project, followed by a two week regional study tour of southern Africa (extended time in Botswana and Zimbabwe).
  •  Option Two: June 1 – September 6, 2006: Option Two activities between June 1 - June 28 are the same as in Option One.  While Option One carries a two-month internship in South Africa, the Option Two comparative internship begins in South Africa for 5 1/2 weeks and is followed by a 4 1/2 week internship in India
  •  Option Three: June 1, 2006 – May 15, 2007: This option includes all components of Training Option One or Two plus opportunities for extended in-country training and internship in South Africa or India

All options offer an opportunity for an internship, and participants can choose to take classes in South Africa.  For more information, contact Dr. Jacqueline Howard-Matthews at jhowardmatthews@uncfsp.org
