A New Congress Brings New Hope for
Hispanic Higher Education

HACU recently announced its 2007 Legislative Agenda on behalf of its 450 member institutions across the nation.  This spring, hundreds of presidents representing the most under-funded colleges in America are heading to Washington, D.C. March 25-27 as part of its annual Capitol Forum hoping to raise awareness for the Hispanic higher education cause among our nation’s legislators.

On the agenda will be 22 amendments to the Higher Education Act (HEA) along with proposals for the Farm Security and Rural Investment Act (Farm Bill), the Development, Relief and Education for Alien Minors (DREAM) Act, the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act, and increased funding opportunities in the areas of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM).

HACU Receives $300,000 Wachovia Foundation Grant

HACU announced today it
has received $300,000
from the Wachovia Foundation
for 2006-2008.  The Foundation has committed to three annual grants of $100,000 each in support of HACU’s scholarships and the Supporting Employment and Education Development (SEED) Program.

The highlight of the SEED Program is a resume database that HACU hosts on its website and that corporations can access for a fee.  It was formed in response to corporations looking to HACU to assist them in diversifying their workforce through the hiring of Hispanic professionals, including alumni of HACU’s nationally acclaimed National Internship Program (HNIP), graduating students, post-graduate candidates, along with faculty and staff.

“We’re extremely pleased with the Foundation’s support of HACU’s ongoing efforts to diversify Corporate America,” said Ana Esquivel, HACU’s Executive Director of Student Services.
