HACU Annual Conference kicks off October 20th 
HACU's 21st Annual Conference, Championing Hispanic Higher Education Success: A National Imperative for the 21st Century, will take place in Chicago Oct. 20-22, 2007. Conference tracks include: Recruitment and Retention of Hispanic Students; Challenges for Hispanic Education; Advocacy and Legislation – Higher Education; and International Higher Education.

“We hope that the participants will come away understanding the importance of Hispanic higher education issues and at the same time benefit from a tremendous opportunity to network, forge cost-effective partnerships, and learn about new public and private sector education funding opportunities,” said Antonio Flores, HACU President and CEO. 

Chicago-area students encouraged to attend event

A free Career Fair will be hosted by HACU as part of the 21st Annual Conference. Job seekers and college students can learn about educational, employment, internships, and scholarship opportunities available. Exhibitors will include federal and corporate employers. Colleges and universities will also be present. The career fair will be held at the Hyatt Regency Chicago at 151 East Wacker Drive, Riverside Center West Room, Sunday, Oct. 21, 2007, 10 a.m.–5 p.m. or Monday, October 22, 10 a.m.-Noon.

Opportunity to Host International Scholars
American Councils is pleased to announce opportunities for U.S. Institutions to host participants of the Junior Faculty Development Program (JFDP) for the 2008 spring semester. Application deadline is October 12, 2007. The JFDP is a program of the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the U.S. Department of State and administered by the American Councils for International Education. More.

Higher Education for Development (HED), in cooperation with USAID, is issuing a request for applications for Uganda: Parliamentary Research and Internship Program (PRIP). Application deadline is Oct. 19, 2007, 5 p.m. (EDT). More. HED also anticipates making one award of up to $200,000 for a two-year higher education partnership, with funding from the U.S. Department of State and USAID. Application deadline is Nov. 15, 2007, 5 p.m. (EDT). More.

Summer University 2007 – "Governance and Leadership: Between concept and practice" seeks participants. Applications are currently being accepted from doctoral students and faculty members between the ages of 25 and 35 for the IOHE’s XV Biennial Conference scheduled for Nov. 7-13, 2007. Participants must be fluent in Spanish. More.
