Seeking students for design competition
Five college students will have a chance to receive $1,000 to $5,000 in scholarships, show their design skills and also walk a fashion runway during a student track event at HACU’s 22nd Annual Conference in Denver, Colorado, Oct. 11-13, 2008. It's all part of the Design Your Future/Diseña Tu Futuro competition presented by HACU and Gap Inc. Students at HACU-member institutions enrolled in a fashion apparel design program may apply online. A suit design and supporting documentation must be submitted by the extended deadline of July 25, 2008.

HACU conferences featured in HM&T magazine 
The March/April edition of Hispanic Meetings & Travel magazine (HM&T) features HACU in its two-part series on Hispanic Associations annual meetings. This year, HACU's Annual Conference will take place in Denver, Colorado,Oct. 11-13. The HACU conference department has collaborated with Colorado Convention Associates to offer sightseeing tours for individuals planning to arrive early or planning to stay beyond the conference dates. Download a printable list of tour descriptions here.
Next year, the HACU's International Conference will take place in Guadalajara, Mexico, April 22-24. The 2009 annual conference will take place in Orlando, Florida, Oct. 31-Nov. 2.

Flores, HACU-affiliated Latino leaders make "The List"
Antonio R. Flores, President and CEO of HACU, was among the Hispanic leaders recognized in “101 The List” published in the June 2008 issue of Latino Leaders: The National Magazine for the Successful American Latino. Flores was selected for his leadership in higher education. Specifically he is recognized for tripling HACU membership and for his unrelenting advocacy efforts in increasing funding for Hispanic-Serving Institutions.  

The following individuals from HACU-member institutions also were listed:
 Francisco Cigarroa, President of The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio (Hispanic-Serving Institution Member);
 David Hayes-Bautista. Professor of Medicine and Director of the Center for the Study of Latino Health and Culture, University of California-Los Angeles (Associate Member Institution);

HACU listed among top Hispanic non-profits in the U.S.
Hispanic Business magazine's May 2008 issue ranked HACU among the top 25 Hispanic non-profits in the country. The magazine ranks non-profits by their previous year’s expenditures. Click here to view HACU’s 2007 Annual Report.

More than 400 college students intern this summer
The HACU National Internship Program (HNIP) welcomed 400 students from colleges and universities for the summer. The majority of the students are participating at federal agencies in Washington DC. Some students will intern at participating corporate sites at nationwide locations. Click here to find out if your college or university students are participating this summer.

Universidad de Negocios ISEC seeking to partner with member institutions
Universidad de Negocios ISEC, one of HACU’s member institutions in Mexico, is looking to partner with U.S. colleges and universities to create a dual degree program. Universidad de Negocios ISEC has been educating Mexico’s youth for over 54 years and offers degree programs in Business Administration, International Business, Public Accounting, Finance, Law, Marketing and Tourism, among several other degree programs.     Announcements and Opportunities 

    The Embassy Science Fellows Program is seeking applications from faculty who would like a short-term international experience. Faculty in the science, technical, engineering, and mathematics disciplines are eligible to participate. U.S. Embassies will host a working scientist for a 6-12 weeks stay while the scientist provides expertise, advice, and assistance with science and technology-related issues. Applications are requested by June 20, 2008, along with a complete resume and a cover letter indicating why he/she is qualified for the position.     Cooperative Institutional Research Program (CIRP) Summer Institute and the Diversity Research Institute will take place mid-August at UCLA. The CIRP Summer Institute is designed to give participants a comprehensive approach to analyzing college student data and demonstrating how data applies to their campus. The Diversity Research Institute will provide individuals with a framework to assess institutional climate for diversity, campus diversity practices, and student outcomes. Institutional researchers, other college personnel and scholars using CIRP surveys are invited to consider attending both Institutes. For more information, call (310) 825-1925, or e-mail HERI@ucla.edu.

    "Creating a Presence," a free technical assistance and capacity-building workshop for Minority Serving Institutions will take place Sept. 22-25, 2008, at the InterContinental Hotel Dallas. Information will be provided about partnerships and funding opportunities with federal agencies. Request and return a completed registration form by Sept. 15.     The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences
    Foundation 2008 Faculty Seminar is accepting applications. The Seminar is open to  professors, chairs, deans and instructors and will take place Nov 11 –15 in Los Angeles. There is no seminar fee. Twenty fellows will be selected to participate in five days of discussions, presentations and interactions with major studios, production companies, the networks and their top production and programming people.
