NSF Listening Session / Title V Workshop to be held at Capitol Forum
The following sessions will be held in conjunction with 
HACU's Capitol Forum in Washington, D.C. March 1-3:  The National Science Foundation (NSF) will hold a Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI) listening session, March 1, 2-5 p.m., to collect stakeholder input on Section 7003 of the America COMPETES Act. More>> 

The U.S. Department of Education will offer a technical assistance workshop on Title V, March 4, 9 a.m. - noon. Information on the 2009 undergraduate Title V competition and the new post-baccalaureate program authorized by last year’s reauthorization of the Higher Education Act will be provided.

HNIP announces spring semester interns
The HACU National Internship Program (HNIP) welcomed 91 students from colleges and universities nationwide. 68 students were placed in paid internships in the Washington, D.C., area and 23 students will be located in field offices nationwide. List available. More>>

Flores meets with Puerto Rico Colleges and Universities

Antonio Flores, President and CEO of HACU, recently met with leaders of colleges and universities in Puerto Rico. During a presentation at the University of the Sacred Heart, Flores highlighted HACU’s 2008

HACU-DHHS Professions Capacity Building Program accepting applications
HACU-DHHS Professions Capacity Building Program is accepting applications for its summer program. The program is designed to expand federal health care grant and contract opportunities at campuses. Administrators and support staff in Office of Sponsored Programs and Research – or its equivalent program - are encouraged to apply. Participants selected will receive paid travel and lodging expenses, along with a stipend. Servicemembers Opportunity Colleges (SOC)
SOC representatives visited HACU recently.  SOC membership is an indication that a college or university is military-friendly and deserves consideration as an institution of choice for service members and their families.  Fifty-four percent of HACU HSIs and Associate Members already participate in SOC.  For more information about SOC and its Concurrent Admissions Program (ConAP),  more information online.

Call for Presentations
Members from CLADEA, ACBSP and HACU will come together for a conference in San Antonio, Texas, on June 24-26, 2009.  The second CLADEA International Relations Conference will share best practices and experiences on conducting inter-institutional relationships between the schools of businesses. Interested in making a presentation? Up to twenty program sessions will include presentations by attendees on the theme of international relations, especially as applied to the business unit.  A Call for Presentations and Papers--CLADEA is available with a deadline of February 27 for submitting a brief description. Conference proceedings will be published and scholarly papers are being accepted to be published in this peer-reviewed journal.  Individuals making a presentation may choose to write a scholarly paper that is the focus of their presentation.  The deadline to submit the paper is May 29.

The National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency grant competition  Application deadline Feb. 23 - for the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) Intelligence Community Center of Academic Excellence (IC CAE) Program. The focus is to enhance the capabilities of U. S. IC CAE schools to perform research with the objective of enhancing critical expertise in cultural, diverse regional and geographic understanding, foreign language proficiency, science, technology and engineering areas critical to the IC's mission.

NSF Math Science Partnership - new solicitation.  There is a component called "MSP-Start" for institutions new to the program, particularly minority serving institutions, community colleges, and primarily undergraduate institutions. Deadlines and details provided at the above NSF link. 

Free workshops offered by the Gilman International Scholarship Program and the Institute of International Education for individuals who work with underrepresented students. The one-day workshop entitled "Diversifying the Kinds of Students Who Study Abroad and the Regions Where They Go, " will be held at Arizona State University in Tempe, Arizona on February 27, 2009 and at San Francisco State University in San Francisco, California on March 6, 2009 from 9 am - 2 pm. Participants will receive a complimentary one-year IIE Network membership and an information toolkit to assist them in increasing study abroad on their home campus. Academic-Community Partnership Conference Series (U13)
These applications are to conduct health disparities-related meetings, workshops, and symposia. Areas of focus may include these community-health issues: infant mortality; sudden infant death syndrome; violence prevention; techniques for information dissemination; childhood, adolescent, and/or adult obesity; health literacy; uterine fibroid tumors; and pediatric and maternal HIV/AIDS prevention. For more details, email
