Proposed education budget released Today U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan and other Department of Education officials discussed the administration's proposed FY 2010 budget for education during a briefing held at the Department of Education. See press release. See budget summary.

HACU scholarships - apply by May 22
The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) is accepting online applications for the HACU Scholarship Program through May 22 for the 2009-2010 academic year. More than $400,000 will be awarded to eligible students attending HACU-member colleges and universities. Specific guidelines exist for each scholarship. A special thanks to our sponsors! More>>
Flores speaks on minority higher education issues
Antonio Flores, CEO and President of HACU, was among the panel members at the 2009 Council on Foundations Annual Conference held in Atlanta, Georgia, from May 4-6, 2009. Flores participated on a panel session titled, “Minority Serving Institutions (MSIs): Doing Heavy Lifting to Make Fair Access to Higher Education a Reality,” on May 6. More>>
Free air travel awards for students - apply by June 5
Applications will be accepted for the 5th Annual "Dándole Alas a Tu Éxito/Giving Flight to Your Success" travel award program sponsored by Southwest Airlines and HACU through June 5th. Through this national education initiative, Southwest will provide roundtrip airline tickets to undergraduate and graduate students across the country with socio-economic need who travel away from home to pursue a higher education. Five college students will have a chance to receive a scholarship, demonstrate their design skills, and walk a fashion runway during a student track event at HACU’s 23rd Annual Conference taking place at Disney's Coronado Springs Resort, Walt Disney World®, FL, October 31-November 2, 2009. More>>
HACU’s first Joint International Conference
HACU President and CEO Antonio Flores presents a certificate of appreciation to Alfonso Petersen, Mayor of Guadalajara, and Antonio Leaño Reyes, President of Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara, on April 22, at the opening reception of the Joint International Conference at the Palacio Municipal in Guadalajara, Mexico. Attendance exceeded 330, a new record for HACU International Conferences, with 23 nationalities represented.
Thanks to the many HACU-members that joined us in Guadalajara for the International Conference. The next opportunity for HACU-members to make global connections will occur in June. Make plans to attend a historic conference as members from CLADEA, ACBSP, and HACU come together for one conference in San Antonio, Texas, on June 24-26, 2009. Learn about best practices and experiences on conducting inter-institutional relationships between the schools of businesses. Participate in the Global Business Education Survey For over 15 years, the ACBSP Global Business Education Committee has sponsored a periodic survey of members regarding the internationalization of the curriculum and international study opportunities available to students and faculty. This year the population of the 2009 survey is being expanded to include CLADEA and HACU-members. The results will be presented at the CLADEA International Relations Conference. The SACNAS Leadership Program - apply by May 15 Summer Leadership Institute is accepting applications for an ambitious, year-round initiative aimed at strengthening the leadership skills of SACNAS postdocs and science professionals. The summer and conference institutes are developed and sponsored in collaboration with the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS).
MSI - Models of Success RFP - apply by June 8 Lumina Foundation for Education has issued a Request for Proposals to launch its Minority-Serving Institutions-Models of Success program. Seeking to dramatically increase college completion, especially among first-generation students, low-income students and students of color, the program aims to partner with MSIs and other organizations to improve and document increased postsecondary attainment. Lumina Foundation especially invites proposals involving two or more MSI institutions and/or organizations with MSI expertise. More>>
CSU System National Chancellor Search The Colorado State University System Board of Governors has established a search committee to conduct a national search for a new Chancellor of the three-campus Colorado State University System. In November 2008, Larry Penley resigned from the conjoined position of the president of the Fort Collins campus and chancellor of the CSU System. The Board appointed Dr. Tony Frank to serve as interim president of the CSU Fort Collins campus. The chancellor role was left vacant until the Board determined if it was in the best interest of the campuses and the system to separate the two roles. More>>
