HACU urges Congress to recognize famed educator Jaime Escalante
HACU is urging Congress to honor famed educator Jaime Escalante, whose teaching methods motivated inner-city high school students in Los Angeles to master advanced math and inspired the film Stand and Deliver. “It is my hope that Congress will honor Jaime Escalante by naming the STEM program for HSIs funded by SAFRA as the ’Jaime Escalante STEM Program,’” said HACU President Antonio R. Flores. Escalante passed away on Mar. 30, 2010, from cancer. He was a graduate of HACU-member HSI California State University, LA. Press Release.
New! Federal Agency Pre-event Workshop A Federal Agency Update and Workshop will be held as a pre-event for HACU’s 15th Annual National Capitol Forum on Hispanic Higher Education, Sunday, April 18, 2 p.m.- 4 p.m. at the Madison Hotel. The U.S. Departments of Homeland Security and Labor are among federal agencies scheduled to participate. If you haven't already registered for the Capitol Forum, register here.
HACU-DHHS Professions Capacity Building Program extends deadline for HSIs Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs) can apply to the 2010 HACU-DHHS Professions Capacity Building Program. Participants will receive all travel and lodging expenses, along with a modest stipend. The deadline has been extended to April 23.
HACU participates in March for America
HACU was among the tens of thousands of participants that gathered on the National Mall, as part of the March for America on March 21, to urge President Obama and Congress to address Comprehensive Immigration Reform. More>>

HACU-EOI Scholarships available HACU and Fundación EOI, Spain, renewed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) earlier this year. The MOU will provide 20 scholarships of 50% for EOI graduate programs in Madrid or Sevilla, Spain, and 15 scholarships of 30% for EOI’s International Master Executive TICAL Program. More>>

INCAE-HACU scholarship for MBA in Costa Rica Students attending HACU-member institutions are eligible to apply for a scholarship that covers 70 percent of tuition costs at INCAE's Walter Kissling Gam campus in Costa Rica. The application deadline is June 18. More>>
HSIs invited to three Green Building Institutes Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSIs) are invited to attend a Building Green Learning Institute to learn about best practices, resources and technology solutions for greening campuses. Campus leaders responsible for advancing sustainability and green building can take advantage of free registration, lodging, meals, and materials. The institutes will take place in the following cities: Atlanta, April 8-10; Minneapolis, May 6-8; and, San Antonio, June 10-12. Registration for the other cities will be available at a later date.
