Applications for travel awards available to students
Students who travel away from home to pursue a higher education can apply for a chance to receive a travel award courtesy of Southwest Airlines through the “Giving Flight to Your Success/Dándole Alas a Tu Success"™ ¡Lánzate! Travel Award Program. The program begins taking applications on March 7.
Capitol Forum takes place next month in D.C. Register to attend the HACU National Capitol Forum. A hotel discount rate is available until March 11. Speakers include U.S. Congressman Raúl Grijalva of Arizona; Richard Fry, Pew Hispanic Center; and Juan Sepúlveda, Director, White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for Hispanic Americans. House-passed bill would cost students college education Millions of students would be forced to drop out of college, or would be prevented from going to college at all, under a bill passed last week by the U.S. House of Representatives, warned a coalition of national organizations including HACU. HSI and HSI STEM Pre-Application Workshop Next week, the U.S. Department of Education will host a pre-application workshop for the FY 2011 Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSI) and the Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSI) - Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) Programs. The workshop will provide eligible applicants information about preparing grant applications, purpose of each program, selection criteria, application content, submission procedures and reporting requirements. $100,000 HSI Scholarship Competition Sam’s Club is offering sophomores and juniors enrolled full time at a Hispanic-serving institution (HSI) the chance to win a share of $100,000 to pay for their education. To enter, each team of up to three students will develop a marketing plan where the theme is “Increasing Sam’s Club’s Market Penetration of the Latino Population.” The program deadline is May 14, 2011. UN Academic Impact invites HACU-members to participate in e-Discussion The United Nations Academic Impact (UNAI) initiative is hosting an e-Discussion series on the theme “Building a Future for Today’s Youth: Improving Access to Education." The next e-Discussion will take place March 9-15. It will focus on the UNAI principle of "Promoting sustainability through education." The discussion will be held on the UNAI Facebook page. More>>
