Cel ebrate National HSIs Week HACU is calling on all presidents and chancellors of Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs) to make plans to celebrate National Hispanic-Serving Institutions Week this fall, September 18-24, 2011. This year is extra special for members who belong to this national association representing existing and emerging HSIs and who together celebrate HACUs 25th Anniversary. More>>

Early Bird conference rate expires this month
Save before the end of May on registration for HACU's Annual Conference "25 Years of Championing Hispanic Higher Education," taking place Oct. 29-31, in San Antonio, Texas. Early Bird rates for the Annual Conference, Student Track and the Latino Higher Education Leadership Institute expire May 31. Registration is also available for the 25th Anniversary Gala.
HACU accepting scholarship applications HACU will be accepting online applications for its 2011-12 Scholarship Program until June 10. More than $100,000 will be awarded to students enrolled at a HACU-member college or university in the U.S. or Puerto Rico who meet eligibility requirements. Student annual conference scholarships available Students can apply for a Student Conference Scholarship, which covers the cost of Student Track conference, travel, and lodging. To apply students must submit an online application and one-page resume. Applications are due by August 5. More>>

Student Success Collaborative to benefit MSIs The Walmart Foundation awarded a $3 million grant for the Walmart AIHEC HACU NAFEO Student Success Collaborative to three partnering organizations to increase college success rates at Minority-Serving Institutions (MSIs); the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities was among the organizations. Flores speaks about Latinos and the Digital Divide According to a recent report released by the Pew Hispanic Center, in 2010 only 65 percent of Hispanic households utilized the Internet compared to 77 percent for non-Hispanic white households and 66 percent for African-American households. More>>
$100,000 HSI Scholarship Competition Sam’s Club is offering sophomores and juniors enrolled full time at a Hispanic-serving institution (HSI) the chance to win a share of $100,000 to pay for their education. To enter, each team of up to three students will develop a marketing plan where the theme is “Increasing Sam’s Club’s Market Penetration of the Latino Population.” The program deadline is May 14, 2011.
