HACU Capitol Forum and Capitol Hill visits planned for March

Funding Opportunities at the Federal Level will be the topic of discussion at a pre-conference workshop on Monday morning, March 26. During the session, a federal agency panel will provide information about grant opportunities available to help institutions continue to build their capacity. The session is open to registered attendees of the Capitol Forum.

The Capitol Forum will begin at noon with a luncheon, 2012 Election: HSIs and the New National Agenda. Afternoon sessions include: Key Legislative Proposals in the 112th Congress: Authorization Bills; The Budget's Impact on HSIs: Appropriations for FY 2013; Questions and Answers for Legislative Hill Day; and Student Advocacy 101.

A Tuesday morning session will focus on Hispanic Legislative Priorities for the 112th Congress. Prior to Capitol Hill visits, an overview of Capitol Hill will be provided. Additional information, agenda, advertising and sponsorship opportunities are available online. Early bird deadline expires February 17.

Chairs of Sociology, geography, public administration, and psychology at HSIs invited to participate in EMI course
HACU has partnered with The Emergency Management Institute (EMI) to host a course for Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs), titled E390 Integrating Emergency Management Education into Your Institution. The course is being offered, by-invitation only, to HACU-member HSI department chairs of emergency management related disciplines. Applications due by Feb. 13. More>>
Free Financial Literacy program available for 50 HACU-member HSIs 
HACU has partnered with EverFi, Inc., to bring new-media financial literacy and student loan education to Hispanic American students across the U.S. This Financial Literacy program is available at no cost to the first 50 HACU-member Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs) that commit and reply by February 15, 2012. Student e-internships offered by the Department of State
Virtual Student Foreign Service (VSFS) is piloting a program through HACU to offer students from Hispanic-Serving Institutions the opportunity to serve as virtual interns (eInterns) for U.S. diplomatic posts in the Americas and offices in the Western Hemisphere Affairs
Bureau.
