HACU president appointed to Homeland Security Academic Advisory Council
U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Janet Napolitano has appointed Antonio R. Flores, President and CEO of HACU, to the Homeland Security Academic Advisory Council (HSAAC). Also, appointed from HACU-member institutions are: Dr. Rufus Glasper, Chancellor of the Maricopa Community Colleges in Tempe, Arizona; and Dr. R. Bowen Loftin, President of Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas.
The new council, comprised of prominent university presidents and academic leaders, is charged with advising the Secretary and senior leadership at the Department on several key issues. More>>

The 2012 Election: HSIs and the New National Agenda will be the topic of discussion on March 26 during a luncheon that kicks off HACU's 2012 Capitol Forum on Hispanic Higher Education. The two-day Capitol Forum includes HACU-planned visits to Capitol Hill to speak about the critical need to preserve Title V funding, the USDA HSI program funding, and other HSI programs.
Make sure your institution is represented. Online registration closes March 16. Onsite registration will be available.

HACU Releases “Platform Issues and Recommendations for Presidential Candidates in 2012”
HACU has released its “Platform Issues and Recommendations for Presidential Candidates in 2012.” Responses from presidential candidates will be shared at HACU’s Annual Capitol Forum, March 26-27, 2012. The document is also intended to assure inclusion of Hispanic educational issues in party platforms and encourage public discourse on substantive matters of special interest to Hispanics.

Campaign Launched to Increase Student Civic Engagement
The Fair Elections Legal Network (FELN) recently launched the Campus Vote Project (CVP) designed to empower college students to work with college administrators and local election officials to institutionalize best practices that will increase student participation in elections by providing tools to reduce barriers to voting on their college.
