Action Alert--October 21, 2008 With Election Day only a couple of weeks away, we urge you to take action now to advocate on behalf of Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs) and Hispanic higher education. Contact the Presidential candidates today by clicking here. With HACU's online advocacy system, it will take just moments of your time. In two weeks Americans will elect one of two major party candidates as the 44th President of the United States. However, neither Senator McCain nor Senator Obama has committed to issue the Executive Orders requested by HACU in our Platform Issues and Recommendations for Presidential Candidates. Although Senator Obama did respond to our issues, stating in part, “I am committed to strengthening and expanding eligible HSIs of higher education to increase their capacity to serve Hispanic and low-income students,” his response was also very general and tentative. Meanwhile, no formal response has been received from Senator McCain to date. Both campaigns did send a representative to the HACU-HITN Town Hall Meeting on Hispanic Higher Education. As crucial as it is that we each cast our vote on November 4, it is equally important for Hispanic higher education that we let the future president know of our concerns for the education of our young people. Please join me in advocating on behalf of the millions of students served by Hispanic-Serving Institutions by sending your e-mail today. HACU's Action Alerts are a service of the |
