Weak economy drives community college enrollment
The sour economy, tuition hikes at state universities and military veterans returning to school are driving enrollment in community colleges higher across the Valley. Classes start Monday for most students in Maricopa Community Colleges. Overall, the district's 10 colleges are seeing a 10 percent enrollment gain for 2010-11. More than 106,000 students have enrolled for at least one class, compared with about 97,000 last school year.
