Preparations are already underway for the 2010 Design Your Future/Diseña Tu Futuro competition presented by Gap Inc., LATINA Style magazine and the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU).

The Design Your Future/Diseña Tu Futuro Competition is designed to provide college students at 30 HACU member institutions with majors in fashion design the opportunity to build their portfolio as they continue their studies.

This co-branded design contest is for students attending HACU member schools with fashion design programs. The concept behind the contest is for fashion students to design a job interview suit. The competition will allow students to design a project within parameters which will assist them in their career development. Students will learn valuable skills in time management, designing within guidelines and presenting their work to an audience of their peers and professionals in the industry. This valuable experience will provid students exposure to a Fortune 500 corporation as they plot their career paths. The five finalists will receive helpful input and feedback from professionals in the fashion industry.

This design competition will provide college students at HACU member institutions in fashion design programs the opportunity to compete for $1,000 to $5,000 in scholarships to continue their studies. The fashion students will receive real world experience as they demonstrated their skills and abilities in design and see a project through from start to finish.

Fashion design students at HACU-member institutions must complete an on-line application and submit a design of a job interview suit along with additional supporting documentation by June 12, 2010.

Five finalists will be selected to compete in a fashion runway competition at HACU’s 24th Annual Conference in the Hilton San Diego Bayfront, San Diego, California, September 18-20, 2010.

Finalists will receive:

• A scholarship award ranging from $1,000 to $5,000.
• An opportunity to walk a fashion runway during a Student Track event at HACU’s 24th Annual Conference in the Hilton San Diego Bayfront, San Diego, California, September 18-20, 2010. 
• An article highlighting their accomplishments in a major Hispanic publication, along with photos from the final competition.
• Finalists will be notified of their selection the week of July 20, 2010.
