U.S. Department of Education announces dates and locations of
Technical Assistance Workshops for College Cost Reduction and Access Act

The U.S. Department of Education (DOEd) will conduct pre-application technical assistance workshops for Institutional Development and Undergraduate Education Service (IDUES) programs in FY 2008.

The workshops will provide information for institutions who wish to submit proposals for grants under the College Cost Reduction and Access Act of 2007 (CCRAA) legislation, which includes $200 million to be awarded to HSIs during FY 2008 and 2009.  The legislation targets funds for science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM) education and articulation programs. A single competition this year will award two-year grants, approximately $1 million each year FY 2008 and 2009. The specific legislative language for the HSI program is:

(i) to increase the number of Hispanic and other low income students attaining degrees in the fields of science, technology, engineering, or mathematics; and (ii) to develop model transfer and articulation agreements between 2-year Hispanic-serving institutions and 4-year institutions in such fields.

Pre-application technical assistance workshops are scheduled for one full day each, beginning with registration at 8 a.m. and ending at 5 p.m. Participants are expected to make their own hotel reservations at their own expense. Note there is no fee for attending these workshops.
