The workshops will provide information for institutions who wish to submit proposals for grants under the College Cost Reduction and Access Act of 2007 (CCRAA) legislation, which includes $200 million to be awarded to HSIs during FY 2008 and 2009. The legislation targets funds for science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM) education and articulation programs. A single competition this year will award two-year grants, approximately $1 million each year FY 2008 and 2009. The specific legislative language for the HSI program is: (i) to increase the number of Hispanic and other low income students attaining degrees in the fields of science, technology, engineering, or mathematics; and (ii) to develop model transfer and articulation agreements between 2-year Hispanic-serving institutions and 4-year institutions in such fields. Pre-application technical assistance workshops are scheduled for one full day each, beginning with registration at 8 a.m. and ending at 5 p.m. Participants are expected to make their own hotel reservations at their own expense. Note there is no fee for attending these workshops.
