HACU submits recommendations on
Hispanic-Serving Agricultural Colleges and Universities

The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) has submitted to the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) formal Recommendations for Rules and Regulations Implementing HSACU Provisions in the Reauthorized Farm Bill. To view a copy of the document submitted by HACU, please click here. The Food and Energy Security Act, signed into law this summer, reauthorized the nation’s chief agriculture legislation and created a new category of Hispanic-Serving Agricultural Colleges and Universities (HSACUs) and five new programs to provide funding for them.  USDA invited public input into the rules and regulations which will further define HSACUs and govern the new programs

HACU’s recommendations are based on input from several sources, including a stakeholder meeting hosted by USDA during HACU’s 22nd Annual Conference in Denver, CO, to discuss the new provisions. Individuals from 17 institutions and two organizations provided public comments on the definition of Hispanic-Serving Agricultural Colleges and Universities (HSACUs) along with other recommendations on the new programs.

The USDA-HACU Leadership Group, the HACU Government Relations Committee, and the HACU Governing Board also provided HACU with feedback.
