HACU Member Advisory—October 7, 2004 DoD Awards 15 new grants to 11 HSIs The U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) this week announced the award of 15 new grants totaling more than $3.9 million to 11 HACU-member Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs) to enhance programs and capabilities in disciplines critical to national security and the DoD. HACU applauds the leadership of these 11 HSIs for securing these competitive grants under the FY 2004 DoD Historically Black Colleges and Universities/Minority Institutions Infrastructure Support Program. The grants support efforts ultimately to increase the ranks of under-represented Hispanics in crucial science, technology, engineering and mathematics fields. The new grant recipients are:
HACU continues to advocate for FY 2006 increases in DoD program funding for HSIs and for other program funding increases as part of the pending five-year reauthorization of the Higher Education Act.
