DoD Awards 15 new grants to 11 HSIs

The U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) this week announced the award of 15 new grants totaling more than $3.9 million to 11 HACU-member Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs) to enhance programs and capabilities in disciplines critical to national security and the DoD.

HACU applauds the leadership of these 11 HSIs for securing these competitive grants under the FY 2004 DoD Historically Black Colleges and Universities/Minority Institutions Infrastructure Support Program. The grants support efforts ultimately to increase the ranks of under-represented Hispanics in crucial science, technology, engineering and mathematics fields.

The new grant recipients are:

• California State University-Fresno
• City College of New York, City University of New York (2 grants)
• Lehman College of the City University of New York
• New Jersey City University
• Texas A&M International University
• University of Miami
• University of New Mexico
• University of Puerto Rico-Rio Piedras (3 grants)
• University of Texas at El Paso
• University of Texas-Pan American
