For FY 2007, HACU is again seeking record new funding under Title V, which remains the chief vehicle for targeting federal grants to HSIs. Please join HACU in urging a higher funding level for HSIs under Title V for FY 2007 in education bills that will be voted on by Congress following the November election.
We encourage you to inform your U.S. Representative and U.S. Senator of the need to increase Title V funding to $100 million for FY 2007. In addition, we ask that you request that the provision requiring a 2 year wait out period before applying for a new Title V Grant be removed from the HEA Reauthorization Bill and attached to the Labor–HHS-Education FY 2007 appropriations bill so that this burdensome regulation can be immediately remedied.
Information on the focus, scope and application process for Title V grants and other federal programs for FY 2007 will be featured in two workshops at HACU’s 20th Annual Conference October 28-31, 2006 in San Antonio, Texas. We have invited 10 federal agencies with programs designated for Minority Serving Institutions to serve on a panel on federal grant and partnership opportunities available to HSIs.
If you have not yet registered for the Conference, please consider joining us in sharing information about your Title V initiative with other HSI program representatives. Visit http://www.hacu.net/ for more information and online registration forms.
Make plans also to attend HACU’s 2007 Capitol Forum March 25-27, 2007, in Washington, D.C., when the leadership of HACU member colleges and universities will present a unified voice to Congress urging funding increases for FY 2007 across federal agency program lines.
