HACU Member Advisory—June 29, 2004 HACU encourages member institutions to apply for HACU encourages both U.S. and Mexico member institutions to consider applying for the 2004 United States - Mexico Training Internships, Exchanges and Scholarships (TIES) Partnership Initiative. The deadline for applications is August 27, 2004. The Association Liaison Office for University Cooperation in Development (ALO) will welcome applications from HACU institutions. Please review the details below. ALO has announced the release of a 2004 Special Request for Applications: U.S. - Mexico Training, Internships, Exchanges, and Scholarships Initiative (TIES). The RFA may be downloaded from ALO's website: http://www.aascu.org/ALO/RFPs/RFPMain.htm. The deadline for receipt of applications is August 27, 2004, 5:00 p.m. EDT. ALO, in cooperation with USAID/Mexico, is issuing this call for Applications for the U.S. - Mexico Training, Internships, Exchanges, and Scholarships (TIES) Partnership Initiative. This initiative will establish at least 35 institutional partnerships between U.S. and Mexican higher education institutions and directly support Mexican competitiveness and the U.S. - Mexico common development agenda as articulated through the North American Free Trade Agreement and the Partnership for Prosperity. For this third cycle RFA, ALO anticipates recommending approximately six (6) applications for awards of up to $300,000 each for completion by September 2007 (approximately $100,000 per year). Five of these partnerships will focus on contributing to rural development in Mexico and one will focus on strengthening Mexico's capacity to prevent, diagnose and control tuberculosis and other infectious diseases. Successful applicant institutions will typically propose at least seven long-term (two academic semesters) scholarships for Mexicans to be embedded within a partnership, in addition to other training, internships, and exchanges.
