HACU Study Abroad Scholarship Programs

HACU has partnered with several study abroad providers to provide scholarships for students at HACU-member institutions to participate in a number of programs around the world. In addition to the scholarship, a student can ordinarily apply federal financial aid (Pell Grant, Stafford Loan, and PLUS loan) toward this study abroad program.

Semester at Sea - HACU Scholarship

Eligibility: Students attending a Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI)  that is a member of HACU.

Scholarship Description:

The Institute for Shipboard Education (ISE) is pleased to offer a $10,000 scholarship for students attending a Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) to participate in spring or fall Semester at Sea voyages. All participants receive a full semester’s worth of undergraduate credits from the Colorado State University.

ISE believes that international exposure is a critical element in today’s undergraduate education, offering students a real-life global education experience that will give them an edge in this highly competitive job market. The program is open to students, regardless of their major.

To be eligible for the scholarship, you must:

    Maintain full-time undergraduate enrollment at a Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI)  that is a member of HACU
    Demonstrated leadership through participation in community service or extracurricular

Semester at Sea’s HACU Video Blogging Scholarship

Amount: $10,000 award offered on each fall and spring semester
Description:  The HACU Scholar is expected to video blog, post on social media and act as a representative of the Semester at Sea program throughout their voyage.  HACU Scholars must serve as a Diversity Peer Mentor for one year after their voyage ends.

 

HACU-AIFS Scholarship

Semester or Summer: up to 50% off program fee

In association with the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU), AIFS offers scholarships for Hispanic students from HACU member institutions. Students will receive a scholarship of up to 50% of the AIFS semester or summer program fee. Awards will be made in conjunction with the HACU advisory board. Visit www.HACU.net to see if your institution qualifies.

Eligibility: Hispanic students who attend a HACU member institution

Deadlines: Completed scholarship and program applications must be postmarked or sent via email by the following deadlines:
Fall Semester/Academic Year: April 15
Spring Semester: October 1
Summer: March 1 

 

HACU IES Abroad Scholarship

Open to students who are currently attending a Hispanic-Serving Institution that is a member of Hispanic Association of Colleges & Universities (HACU - www.hacu.net).

Amount:    Summer: Up to $2,500;

                 Semester: Up to $5,000

     Eligibility:
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  • Apply to/ accepted to and enroll in a summer, semester or academic year IES Abroad program. (J-Term programs are not eligible).
  • Demonstrate financial need.
  • Priority given to first generation college students and/or Federal Pell Grant recipients.
  • Return Requirement: If awarded one of these scholarships, at the conclusion of the IES Abroad program you agree to submit a 1-page statement about your experience abroad, including how it has affected you personally, professionally, and academically and how this scholarship supported your endeavors.  Once submitted, this statement becomes property of IES Abroad and excerpts may be used in any/all IES Abroad electronic and printed publications. Additional details and instructions will be emailed to you after your program ends.
  • Standard programs only.  Customized programs are not eligible for IES Abroad financial aid

    School for International Training (SIT) HACU Scholarships

    SIT Study Abroad offers an automatic $3,000 scholarship to any student from a HACU member institution that participates in SIT semester programs and $2,000 for a summer program.

    Students may also be considered for SIT scholarships such as the Pell Match Grant and other scholarships if the student has additional financial need.
